Al-Baqarah verse (verse) 256 is a verse of the Islamic scripture, the Quran. 
The verse includes the phrase "there is no compulsion in religion".
Immediately after this statement, the Qur'an offers an argument for it: since it clearly distinguishes the path of guidance from the path of error through revelation, explanation, clarity and repetition, it is now up to the people.  Either they choose it or the other way around.
This verse comes right after the Throne verse.
